01 / History & meaning

A welcome with deep roots. 門松

Kadomatsu (門松), meaning “gate pine,” is part of Japan’s Shōgatsu, or New Year, traditions. Placed at an entrance, it serves as a marker welcoming Toshigami-sama, the New Year deity. These customs express gratitude for the year past and hopes for the year ahead.

In Hawaiʻi, families and businesses continue these traditions in their own way. Our collection brings that spirit to your doorstep through bamboo, pine, and thoughtful seasonal details.

03 / Seasonal additions

Small details. Lasting traditions.

A New Year offering.

Traditionally, two round rice cakes are stacked as an offering to the New Year deity. Their shape recalls sacred mirrors. Ask about small, medium, and large options.

Continuity & connection.

Traditional displays use daidai, a bitter orange associated with successive generations. Our tangerine-with-leaf option provides a local seasonal finishing touch.

A thoughtful foundation.

Lucky papers placed beneath your mochi and citrus display, arranged according to your household’s custom.

Ties of celebration.

Mizuhiki knots add a festive detail. Shimenawa, a sacred straw rope, marks a purified space; decorative New Year ropes form part of the season’s welcoming traditions.
